Frequently Asked Questions

Below you can find the most frequently asked questions about the halal certification process and their answers. If you cannot find the answer to your question, please contact us.

What is a Halal Certificate?
A Halal Certificate is a document issued by an authorised and independent body showing that a product or service (food, cosmetics, tourism, etc.) has been prepared at every stage, from production to presentation, in accordance with the requirements of Islam (Sharia) and the relevant OIC/SMIIC international halal standards. It assures consumers that the product is free from haram ingredients and has been produced in line with hygienic and ethical rules.
Is a halal certificate valid only for food products?
No. Halal certification is requested not only for food products but also for many other sectors and services to which Muslim consumers are sensitive, such as cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, cleaning products, tourism (halal hotels), logistics and even finance.
Are products without a halal certificate not halal?
A product without a halal certificate cannot automatically be called haram. According to Islamic jurisprudence, halal means "not prohibited, permitted and compliant with the rules". A certificate simply means that this compliance has been confirmed by an independent third party and is audited regularly. Uncertified products may remain doubtful (from the Muslim consumer's perspective) because their content is unknown or has not been audited.
Which bodies issue reliable halal certificates in Türkiye?
The official body providing halal accreditation in Türkiye is HAK (Halal Accreditation Agency). To obtain a reliable certificate, certification can be carried out by certification bodies accredited by HAK.
If one product of a company is halal certified, are all its other products certified too?
No. A Halal Certificate is valid for the products or product groups explicitly stated on the certificate. A company obtaining a halal certificate for only one product does not mean that its other products are automatically halal. Other products may not have been applied for or may not have been found compliant with halal standards. Consumers should always check the halal mark and certificate number on the product.
What does the concept of "Tayyib" mean and what is its place in halal certification?
The concept of Tayyib (clean, good, wholesome, of good quality) goes beyond simply being halal and expresses the suitability of a product in terms of health, hygiene, nutrition and ethical standards. Halal certification does not focus only on religious prohibitions (haram); it also incorporates the principle of being Tayyib into the system by considering the product's compliance with environmental, animal welfare, employee rights and general food safety requirements (such as HACCP and ISO 22000). In other words, a product is expected to be both "Halal" and "Tayyib".
